From Arch Creek farms to a bayfront city
North Miami began as the farming settlement of Arch Creek, incorporated as a town in 1926 and as a city on May 27, 1953. It had 60,191 residents at the 2020 census on about 10 square miles, one of the larger cities in Miami-Dade, and it lies on Biscayne Bay, where Florida International University runs its Biscayne Bay Campus.
