AC tune-up in Miami before the heat and the rain arrive

A tune-up catches the worn capacitor, the slow drain and the dirty coil before they fail on a 91 degree afternoon. We clean, test and measure, and you get a written list of what we found.

Updated October 2026

An AC tune-up in Miami typically runs $300 to $500 for a standard visit in published 2026 guides, with basic checks starting lower. Our SW 117th Ave office rinses the condenser coil, flushes the condensate drain, tests capacitors and contactors, measures the refrigerant charge and temperature split, checks the filter and thermostat, and writes up anything that needs attention.

The job

What a tune-up actually prevents

Most summer breakdowns in Miami start as small problems in spring: a capacitor drifting out of range, a drain line growing algae, a condenser coil packed with grass and pollen. Each one is cheap to fix in April and expensive at 9 p.m. in August.

A tune-up is only worth paying for if it's thorough. Ours is a measured visit, not a glance and a sticker: we record the readings and tell you what's healthy, what's wearing and what can wait.

What we see on this job

Pre-summer tune-up

The best time for a Miami tune-up is before June, when the heat, the rain and the call volume all arrive together. A spring visit lets us replace a weak capacitor or clear a slow drain on your schedule instead of in an emergency, and it means the system starts the long season with clean coils and a verified charge. We book tune-ups through the spring, and we'll schedule a second visit in the fall if you want the system checked again after the hardest months.

Planning range: AC tune-up in Miami (full range, basic to comprehensive): $99-$650 in published 2026 guides. A market range, not our quote.

Pre-summer condenser coil rinse during a Miami tune-up

Coil and drain service

We rinse the outdoor condenser coil from the inside out with the fan removed or the top lifted, clear debris around the unit and straighten bent fins. Indoors we inspect the evaporator coil face, clean the drain pan, flush the condensate line and test the float switch. If the indoor coil is matted or growing, we'll show you and quote a full coil cleaning separately, because it takes more time than a tune-up allows and shouldn't be rushed with harsh chemicals near wet electronics.

Refrigerant and electrical checks

The electrical side is where the parts that fail most live. We read each capacitor against its rating, inspect the contactor points, check wire connections for heat damage and measure the amp draw of the compressor and both motors. On the refrigerant side we measure superheat and subcooling and the temperature split across the coil. A charge that's off tells us about a leak; we don't top off a system as part of a tune-up without finding out why it's low.

Local conditions

Why timing matters for a Miami tune-up

From June through November every South Florida HVAC company is stretched thin, and emergency call premiums of $75 to $150 are normal. Miami's rainfall also jumps from about 5 inches in May to nearly 10 inches in June, which is when drains clog and float switches start tripping. A spring tune-up puts the drain flush and the capacitor test ahead of both.

Step by step

What happens during a tune-up

  1. 1

    Check the thermostat

Settings, batteries and call for cooling.

  2. 2

    Inspect the filter

    Size, fit and condition noted.

  3. 3

    Clean the condenser

Coil rinsed, debris cleared, fins straightened.

  4. 4

    Test electrical parts

    Capacitors, contactor, wiring and amps.

  5. 5

    Measure the charge

    Superheat, subcooling and temperature split.

  6. 6

    Service the drain

Pan cleaned, line flushed, float switch tested.

  7. 7

    Write up the findings

Healthy, wearing and what can wait.

Between tune-ups: what you can do

Your part

  • Change one-inch filters every 30 to 60 days.
  • Keep grass and plants clear of the outdoor unit.
  • Pour a cup of vinegar into the drain cleanout monthly.
  • Keep supply vents and the return open.

Our part

  • Electrical tests on capacitors and contactors.
  • Refrigerant measurements.
  • Coil cleaning without bending fins.
  • Drain and float switch service.

Filters and a clear outdoor unit are yours between visits. Anything with a meter or gauge is the tune-up.
