Ice machine repair for Miami restaurants, bars and hotels

An ice machine is a refrigeration system and a water system in one box, and in Miami the water side causes as many problems as the refrigeration. We repair both and deal with the scale that brings most machines down.

Updated October 2026

Ice machine repair in Miami covers machines that make no ice, slow or thin ice, or cloudy, soft ice, and most of those faults trace back to mineral scale, dirty condenser coils or failed sensors and valves. A technician from our Medley head office or SW 117th Ave service office diagnoses the refrigeration and water sides, descales and sanitizes the machine, and checks the water filtration feeding it.

Warning signs

Signs an ice machine needs service

  • Slow or small harvests

    Scale or low water flow.

  • Thin, hollow or cloudy cubes

    Scale or water quality.

  • Ice stuck together in sheets

    Harvest or sensor problem.

  • Blinking lights or error codes

A fault has stopped the machine.

  • Water leaking under the machine

    Drain, pump or valve problem.

  • Machine hot and loud

    Dirty condenser coil.

  • Odd taste or smell in the ice

    Cleaning and filter overdue.

The job

Why ice machines fail so often in Miami

An ice machine freezes water on a cold plate or evaporator, then harvests it. Minerals in the water are left behind on every surface they touch: the evaporator, the water distribution tube, the float and the sensors. As scale builds, harvests slow, sensors misread and the machine stops.

The refrigeration side has its own weak point: air-cooled machines under counters and in hot back rooms pack their condenser coils with dust and grease. Between scale and dirty coils, most service calls are preventable.

What we see on this job

Ice machine not making ice

A machine that stops making ice may have a water supply problem such as a closed valve, a clogged filter or a failed inlet valve, a scaled or stuck float or sensor, a dirty condenser that trips the machine on high pressure, or a refrigeration fault. Many machines display an error code or flash a light pattern that narrows it down. We read the code, check the water supply and filter first, then test the sensors and refrigeration. Most no-ice calls are fixed on the first visit.

Scale buildup inside a Miami ice machine

Scale and water quality problems

Hard water leaves limescale that slows harvest, makes cubes thin or hollow, and eventually locks the evaporator. Descaling with a manufacturer-approved cleaner removes it, but the lasting fix is at the water supply: a filter and scale inhibitor sized for the machine's production, changed on schedule. We check what filtration the machine has, when the cartridge was last changed and whether it suits the machine, and we recommend the right setup for your water and the machine's production rather than only cleaning the scale off again.

Ice machine cleaning

Manufacturers call for periodic cleaning and sanitizing, typically every six months and more often in busy or dusty locations. A full cleaning includes descaling the evaporator and water system, sanitizing surfaces that touch the ice, cleaning the bin, cleaning the air filter and condenser coil, and checking the water filter. We follow the manufacturer's procedure for your model and leave a dated label on the machine so staff and health inspectors can see when it was last done and when the next cleaning is due.

Local conditions

Hard water and ice machines in Miami

Miami-Dade Water and Sewer draws almost all of Miami's water from the Biscayne Aquifer in South Florida's limestone, and published hardness figures for Miami run from moderately hard to very hard; one summary of the utility's 2024 water quality report puts it at 383 ppm. Water like that leaves scale on an evaporator quickly, which is why filtration and regular descaling matter more here than the machine's age.

What moves the price

What decides the price of an ice machine repair

  • The fault

Sensors and valves are small; compressors are not.

  • Scale level

Heavy scale takes longer to remove.

  • Air or water cooled

    Different condenser service.

  • Remote condenser

    Rooftop condensers add access time.

  • Water filtration

    New filter or scale inhibitor.

  • Machine size

Larger machines take longer to clean.

  • Time of the call

    After-hours calls carry a premium.
