Reach-in and display case installation for Miami food businesses

Reach-in refrigerators, freezers and display cases are where a restaurant or market keeps its product and shows it off. Installed right, they hold temperature through a full day of door openings in Miami heat.

Reach-in and display case installation in Miami covers commercial reach-in refrigerators and freezers, prep tables, deli and bakery cases, open multi-deck merchandisers and glass-door coolers for restaurants, markets, bakeries and convenience stores. Technicians from our Medley head office plan the location, power and drains, set and level the equipment, connect remote refrigeration where cases use it, and verify temperatures before product goes in.

The job

Self-contained or remote: the first decision

Most reach-ins and small display cases are self-contained: the compressor and condenser sit in the cabinet and dump their heat into the room. They are simple to install, but every one adds heat that the store's air conditioning then has to remove. Larger display lines in markets often use remote refrigeration, with condensing units on the roof or in a machine room and refrigerant lines run to each case.

The choice depends on the number of cases, the space, the building's AC capacity and the budget. A bakery with two cases and a counter is a self-contained job, while a market with a wall of multi-deck cases usually is not.

  • Number of cases

Single units or a full display line.

  • Electrical

Dedicated circuits where nameplates call for them.

  • Drains

    Condensate to an approved drain.

What we see on this job

Placing and setting reach-ins and cases

Location decides how well a case works. Self-contained units need clearance for their condenser airflow, at the top, bottom or back depending on the model, and they struggle beside fryers and ovens or in direct sun through a storefront window. Open cases are sensitive to drafts from doors and AC supply vents, which spill their cold air onto the floor. We check clearances, level each unit so doors seal and drains run, confirm the outlet or circuit matches the nameplate, and route condensate to an approved drain where the case needs one.

Remote display cases and condensing units

Remote cases connect to condensing units through insulated refrigerant lines, often over a ceiling and up to the roof. That work includes sizing the condensing unit to the cases' load, running and brazing the lines, pressure testing, evacuating and charging, and setting defrost and controls. Open multi-deck cases and frozen food cases also need the right drains and sometimes heaters. Done well, the condensing units sit outside, the sales floor stays cooler, the cases run quieter, and the store's air conditioning no longer fights the heat from a row of compressors.

Before opening day

New restaurants and markets in Miami face inspections, and refrigeration has to hold food-safe temperatures before product goes in. We plan installation dates around your opening schedule, run each case down to temperature, check and set thermostats and defrost cycles, and give you the readings. When equipment is being replaced in a business that is already open, we plan the swap so product moves from the old case to the new one with as little time out of refrigeration as possible.

Local conditions

Bakeries, markets and ventanitas in Hialeah

Hialeah packs 223,109 residents onto 21.58 square miles, and its bakeries, cafeterias, markets and ventanitas sit close to the homes they serve, often in small storefronts where every reach-in and display case shares a tight room with the oven and the coffee machine. Placement and condenser airflow decide how well those cases hold temperature, which is why we look at the room before the equipment arrives.

Step by step

How a reach-in or display case install runs

  1. 1

    Walk the space

    Clearances, power and drains.

  2. 2

    Plan the layout

Away from heat, drafts and sun.

  3. 3

    Deliver and set

    Units moved in and leveled.

  4. 4

    Connect

    Power, drains and remote lines.

  5. 5

    Start up

    Controls and defrost set.

  6. 6

    Pull down

    Each case run to temperature.

  7. 7

    Hand over

    Readings recorded and explained.

Timing

How long an installation takes

A single self-contained reach-in is usually set, leveled and running within a few hours, then needs time to pull down to temperature before product goes in.

A display line with remote refrigeration takes longer, since lines, condensing units and testing can run several days, planned around your opening date or a closed day.
