Comparing AC replacement quotes in Miami
Written for Miami-Dade homes and businesses

A central AC replacement in Miami runs about $6,500 to $13,500 in published 2026 guides, and a new installation where there was no system runs about $4,500 to $12,000. Where your quote lands depends on system size, efficiency, the condition of the duct, the air handler location, the permit and anchoring, and whether the outdoor unit needs coastal protection.

The published ranges, and what they cover

Published 2026 guides for Miami put a central AC replacement at roughly $6,500 to $13,500. That range covers the common jobs: a matched condenser and air handler for an average home, a new line set or a flushed existing one, a new pad and tie-downs, the permit, removal of the old equipment and a start-up with the charge verified.

The spread is wide because houses and systems are. A two-ton system in a closet with sound duct sits near the bottom. A five-ton variable-speed heat pump with an attic air handler, new duct and a coastal-rated condenser sits near the top. A quote well below the range usually leaves something out: the permit, the line set, the drain, or the old system's removal.

What moves the number up or down

Size matters most, and it should come from a load calculation, not the old nameplate. Efficiency is next: every Florida installation has to meet the SEER2 minimum, and two-stage or variable-speed systems cost more up front in exchange for longer, drier cycles.

The duct can change the job more than the equipment. Leaking or undersized attic duct is common in older Miami homes, and pairing new equipment with bad duct wastes part of what you paid. Access adds labor: attic air handlers, tight side yards and high-rise condos all take longer than a ground-floor closet.

Near the water, a coastal-rated condenser or a post-install coil coating adds cost. Published Miami figures put a coating at about $150 to $350, which is usually cheaper than replacing a salt-corroded coil early.

Permits, anchoring and paperwork

Every AC replacement in Miami-Dade needs a mechanical permit, and the equipment on the permit has to match what gets installed. The outdoor unit also has to be anchored to its pad with approved hardware under the county's wind code. Both are part of an honest quote, and both protect you: an unpermitted install can cause problems at inspection, on an insurance claim or when you sell the house.

Ask every contractor whether the price includes the permit, the anchoring hardware and removal of the old equipment. If the answer is vague, the quote isn't comparable to one that includes them.

Repair or replace?

A rough rule multiplies the repair price by the system's age; when the result gets large, replacement deserves a serious look. It is only a starting point. A failed capacitor on a 12-year-old system is still worth fixing. A failed compressor or a leaking coil on a system that uses R-22 usually isn't, because the refrigerant alone is scarce and expensive.

Miami systems work harder than most, so ten to fifteen years is a reasonable life expectancy here. Past that, a big repair is often money spent on the one new part of an old machine.

How to compare quotes

Line the quotes up on the same items: equipment model numbers for both units, SEER2 rating, whether a load calculation was done, what happens to the duct, line set and drain, permit and anchoring, removal, and warranty terms for parts and labor. The lowest total with the fewest inclusions is rarely the least expensive system to own.
